SFR Lubricant & Penetrating Oil

Extreme pressure agents work into the rusted surface and relieve the torque of parts rusted together. Then it dries on the metal: still lubricating, but nothing for dust to stick to.

What it is

SFR's Lubricant & Penetrating Oil contains extreme pressure agents to provide maximum loosening of rusty bolts and parts. The Extreme Pressure agent works into the rusted surface and relieves the torque created by parts rusting together. Once the product penetrates it will loosen easily. On rusted metal cables brushing is the preferred method allowing soaking time of around 5 minutes. This product can be used where aerosol cans, due to their flammability, cannot be used. We formulate with a non-flammable solvent for safety reasons. The product will literally dry on the metal however it still retains its full lubricating and rust preventive capabilities. Wet or dry SFR Lubricant & Penetrating Oil will repel and displace water. On a laboratory Timken machine SFR Lubricant & Penetrating Oil will withstand 600 lbs. of pressure whereas the leading brand will fail at a mere 120-150 lbs. of friction. When time is money to disassemble equipment etc. use SFR Lubricant & Penetrating Oil for fast, reliable results.

Directions

SFR Industrial grade Lubricant & Penetrating Oil can be applied by spraying, brushing, or dipping. If it is poured into a spray bottle or other container, make sure to mark the container with the proper product name so workers know what product is being used and can refer to its Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Pump spray bottles generally work best as you can adjust the nozzle to the proper spray pattern.

It is made to dry on the metal. On exposed surfaces, re-apply regularly.

Testing

Timken test device

Holds 20 weights (600 lb plus). Leading brands hold 5 weights (150 lb).

SFR Industrial grade Lubricant & Penetrating Oil will withstand 20 weights or 600lbs plus of pressure on a simulated Timken Test Device, whereas leading brands will only withstand 5 weights or 150 lbs. of pressure.

The machine is calibrated at 4 weights dry or 120 lbs of pressure and the test bearing is ruined.

Dust test

One month on an open metal plate: the leading brand's side covered in dust, the SFR side shiny with almost none.

We took a black metal plate about 12 inches square and ran a strip of tape down the middle. The best-selling penetrating oil went on one side, SFR Lubricant & Penetrating Oil on the other, and the plate sat out for a month.

The side with the leading brand was covered with dust. The SFR side was shiny, with almost no dust on it. A wet oil film holds on to every bit of dust and grit that lands on it, and grit on moving metal speeds up wear. SFR's film dries, so there is nothing for the dust to stick to.

Questions we get asked

Why Does SFR Lubricant & Penetrating Oil reduce friction so much compared to the leading brands?

SFR is the only product that contains Extreme Pressure Agents that reduce friction by 5 times over the leading brands. Extreme Pressure Agents are complex additives that literally attach to the metal and are resident at all times. When friction occurs the additives with their sacrificial film provide a barrier to protect metals from wear.

Why does SFR Lubricant dry on the surface whereas others I've use are wet; is the product evaporating off of the metal?

SFR uses a very highly refined light carrier for penetrating properties, it then dries on the metal leaving the extreme pressure additives actively on the surface of the metal. Most competitive products use a light oil that stays resident on the metal at all times, but offers very little anti-friction capabilities plus attracts dust, which accelerates wear. The drying is deliberate: it keeps dust and debris from building up. Put it on the bearing and race of the test machine, let it dry, and it still takes 600 lb of pressure, so it is still lubricating. It just is not attracting dust. Re-apply regularly, and it is the best thing you can put on exposed metal.

How can SFR Lubricant be such a good penetrate as well as a lubricant?

SFR has a light refined carrier that acts as a penetrating oil. It is highly refined and has a flash point that makes it non-flammable. Most competitive products use mineral spirits that are flammable as they are cheap and are very light for penetration. Safety is always a major influence in our formulations, thus we only use non-flammable base oils for our extreme pressure agents. This is why SFR not only penetrates but is a true lubricant.

Why can I use less SFR Lubricant than other brands?

Because SFR will take 5 times the pressure that leading competitive products will take, its much more concentrated with additives thus you can use far less and have better penetration, cleaning and friction reduction. SFR products are all designed for as little impact on the environment as possible thus it is very concentrated.
